Keeping Track of Roll Off Dumpster Inventory
With steel prices and labor through the roof, it’s never been a worse time to lose a dumpster. Whether you have 10 dumpsters or 10,000, there are a million ways to lose track of one.
Has a customer ever overfilled a dumpster, so you leave the empty instead of swapping it out? If you don’t update your addresses, then you’re going to forget about that second dumpster.
What if dispatch just forgets to update the address list or makes a mistake?
Has a customer ever changed a dump and return to a pickup at the last minute? If you forget to remove that dumpster from your address list, then you think you have one on a jobsite when it’s already been removed.
Your dumpster management software should help you operate better by making sure these kinds of mistakes don’t happen, while saving you and your teammates time and energy.
Here’s how it works in Hauler: You create a delivery in Hauler and the location will be labeled “pending”. This means you have a delivery scheduled, but it hasn’t been completed yet. The driver will mark the delivery as completed using his or her phone. Once it’s completed, the location changes to Active. Finally, the location changes to Inactive once the dumpster has been picked up.
That’s it! Hauler takes care of everything and is tracking inventory the whole time. No list for you to update, no driver records to review at the end of the day, no customers to call and ask, “is that dumpster still there at the Main Street job?” As dispatchers and drivers use the system, Hauler is automatically keeping track of where each one of your dumpsters are and how long they’ve been sitting.
One more thing: when your inventory is getting a little low you may want to call a few customers up and ask them if their dumpsters are ready for pickup. Hauler keeps track of every address where dumpsters are and how long they’ve been sitting, and you can even see them on a map. Just go to that list and find the dumpsters that have been sitting for too long.
